Modern rustic - High End Residential Design

As high end residential architects on this project, we were mindful of both the client’s vision and the house’s own backstory. This mews house was where Aston Martin founded their automobile business in 1913, so we subtly referenced that heritage with touches such as banquette seating that resembles car upholstery and lights reminiscent of a garage workshop. Larger-scale architectural changes included extending the building, creating a lightwell and replacing a conventional balustrade with a glass one, all of which introduced a feeling of light and flow into a previously narrow, dark space. We also played to the character of the mews building, which would originally have been a stable backing onto a grander home. A mood of modern rusticity shines through via the use of linen, timber, natural foliage and white walls, particularly in the bedroom, with its cottagey pitched ceiling.
